SSI is staffed with over fourteen technicians, trained and experienced in performing aggregate gradation testing on construction materials. All technicians have successfully completed Ferris State University’s “Michigan Certified Aggregate Technician” course and understand the importance of controlled materials in the construction industry.
We have full service laboratories outfitted with the full spectrum of aggregate testing equipment and the ability to mobilize directly to project sites to perform on-site gradation testing.
SSI technicians are familiar with MDOT’s various resources to assist in the consistent and uniform application of aggregate testing, including:
After all, our technicians are also drivers. They have a vested interest in ensuring the highest quality aggregate.
SSI is prequalified in bituminous pavement inspection and staffed with numerous field personnel, trained and experienced in overseeing paving operations on MDOT projects. All technicians are equipped with the necessary tools to perform field inspection and sampling duties for paving operations, including digital levels, infrared thermometers, and sampling plates, buckets, and shovels.
Technicians taking part in field sampling operations participate in the on-site certification entitled, “Sampling HMA Behind the Paver Method-Qualification,” as required by MDOT. All SSI technicians are familiar with MDOT’s various resources to assist in the bituminous pavement inspection process, including:
Our technicians are “by the book” employees to ensure that all projects meet state specifications and standards.
SSI is staffed with over thirty density technicians, trained and experienced in performing density testing for all types of aggregate/soil materials. All technicians have successfully completed Ferris State University’s Density Technology course and have also passed courses related to nuclear gauge safety training and hazardous materials.
Our office utilizes Troxler 3440 Surface Moisture-Density Gauges in accordance with MDOT requirements and maintains their calibration annually.
SSI technicians are familiar with MDOT’s Standard Specifications for Construction and the Density Control Handbook and understand the location, frequency, and density requirements associated with the various pay items and project incorporated materials.
SSI is staffed with over thirty-five concrete technicians with the ability to cover concrete testing needs of any kind or size. Our technicians are equipped with the latest concrete testing equipment and trained to meet the requirements of both the Michigan Concrete Association (MCA) and American Concrete Institute (ACI).
We have full service laboratories with the ability to house thousands of cylinders in a controlled environment and to break specimens with the latest compression machines.
Our office is familiar with MDOT’s Standard Specifications for construction and all applicable special provisions pertaining to concrete testing. You can trust the results our technicians provide.
