The purpose of this project was to determine any stress or deterioration of the structure which may have been caused by the “S” curve design and riverbed base material. SSI was responsible for creating a complete 3D model & historic documentation of 3rd Avenue Bridge. The collection was completed using a method a data fusion from various platforms. The first method involved SSI’s Mobile LiDAR unit to collect the bridge deck, railings, features, and surrounding areas. This dataset was then fully controlled using visible chevron targets set along the bridge.

Our methods for this project included SSI’s Mobile LiDAR unit to collect the bridge deck, railings, features, and surrounding areas. This dataset was then fully controlled using visible chevron targets set along the bridge. SSI’s UAV equipped with a LiDAR sensor was then flown to collect the fascia sides of the bridge. The bridge railings from the controlled Mobile LiDAR deck scan were used to control the aerial UAV data. The final collection method utilized SSI’s Bathymetric unit equipped with both underwater sonar and the Mobile LiDAR unit to collect subsurface features as well as the underside of the bridge. This data was then controlled using the Aerial UAV data. All datasets were then merged together to create a comprehensive 3D model of the 3rd Ave Bridge.
