Given WCAA’s standards for safety, efficiency, and ability to minimize affects to aircraft movement SSI utilized Mobile LiDAR technology to complete this project. Mobile Scanning technology offered a safe way to scan the area of interest and develop the existing conditions that were needed for project. SSI collected the LiDAR data for the entire corridor including the runway, all associated taxiways, and all greenbelts within the “Survey Limits Exhibit”. To obtain the greenbelt areas of the airport, SSI mounted the Riegl VMX scanning system on a UTV equipped with tracks to ensure minimal disruption to the grass area. SSI also performed all LiDAR acquisition during the day, as to collect hi-res imagery of the project.

SSI provided Design Survey services in connection with the Reconstruction of Runway 4L/22R, the associated connecting taxiways (A-1, A-2, A-3, A-4, A-7, A-8, A-9, A-10), and portions of taxiways A, Q, and A-5.

The SSI Solution

To obtain the greenbelt areas of the airport, SSI mounted the Riegl VMX scanning system on a UTV equipped with tracks to ensure minimal disruption to the grass area. SSI also performed all LiDAR acquisition during the day, as to collect hi-res imagery of the project.
